WILFRED ERNEST, 234662, Private, Canadian Infantry (Manitoba
Regiment) - 8th Bn. Died: 10/11/1917, aged 23. Son of Mrs. Catherine Louisa Fakeley,
née Hewlett, of Kindersley, Saskatchewan, and the late John James Fakeley (who
may have died the same year as his son). Born in Dover on 28 February 1894,
he was living with his family in 1901 at Buckland Farm House. Mr
Fakeley was a railway porter and the couple's son Herbert William,
aged 17, was working as a shopkeeper's porter. At home too were
Lillian Martha, 15, and Stephen Reginald, then 12. in 1891 the
family were living at 75 Clarendon Street, and there were three
elder children; Catharine Emma, 14, a school pupil-teacher, Amy
Louise, 12, and John Henry, 9. In 1907 the family emigrated to
Canada, aboard the Empress of Ireland. On his enlistment on 7 April
1916 Wilfred's civilian occupation was that of a drug clerk. He was
described as five feet eight inches tall, with grey eyes and dark
brown hair. His religion was given as Methodist. Grave XII C 11. "He
asked life of Thee and Thou gavest him even length of days for ever
