GEDDES, AUGUSTUS DAVID, Colonel of 2nd Btn, The Buffs (East
Kent Regiment). Born in Dover on 6 June 1866, he was educated
at Cheltenham College and Sandhurst, and served through the South
African War where he was severely wounded. Qualified as an
interpreter in Russian, he went to the Front on 17 January 1915 and
was killed on 28 April 1915, aged 48. He was the son of Col.
John Geddes, of 4, Suffolk Square, Cheltenham and his wife Madeline
Mary, the daughter of John Augustus Hessing. He had two brothers,
Brigadier General John Gordon Geddes and Lieutenant Colonel George
Hessing Geddes. He was the husband of Vera
Colville Goff (formerly Geddes), of 16, Lincoln House, Basil St.,
Chelsea, London, daughter of William Oswald Gilchrist from Oakley
Hall, Basingstoke. The couple had married at All Saints' Church,
Dearn, Hampshire on 3 March 1908. IV C 4
