He disembarked in France on 01/06/1915, and was awarded the Military Medal while serving with the 37th Field Ambulance (London Gazette 23/08/1916). His photopgraph and obituary appears in 'The Dover Express and East Kent News' for the 20th October 1916. It states that he was killed in action by a shell on the 4th October. The War Diary for the 37th Field Ambulance (WO95/1843) mentions 4 Other ranks killed and 5 wounded on this day.
